The Aztec Empire fell in 1521 to Hernando Cortes a Spanish conquistador. It started in 1519 when Cortes arrived in Central America. He was welcomed by the Aztecs as a god. Soon though, they realized he was not a god, and was a threat to them. Cortes captured Montezuma II and later killed him. The Spanish also brought with them horrible diseases that the Aztecs were not immune to. With only 400 men and a few cannons, the Spanish decided to recruit the neighboring tribes. The tribes who definitely did not like the Aztecs joined in. When the Spanish attacked the Aztec were quickly defeated and surrendered.
